DuoDERM® Hydroactive Gel is a clear, preservative-free, viscous hydrogel. Indicated for the management of partial- and full-thickness wounds, ideally as a filler for dry cavity wounds to provide a moist healing environment. • Allows non-traumatic removal of secondary dressing without damaging new tissue.

What is Hydroactive gel used for?

It is beneficial for patient health that trained healthcare professionals use DuoDERM® Hydroactive® Gel at the right point in time during the healing of a wound. The gel facilitates autolytic debridement. It moisturizes, bringing needed moisture to dry, necrotic, sloughy or granulating wounds.

What is DuoDERM made of?

The hydrocolloid in DuoDERM® is made up of sodium carboxymethylcellulose, gelatin, pectin and adhesive polymers, which helps provide absorbency, as well as a moist gel-like environment that helps promote autolytic debridement.

How do you use DuoDERM?

Gently mold the dressing into place for 30-60 seconds. Gently lift one corner of the dressing. Roll it away from the wound while holding the skin away. Gently lift the other corners and pull upwards until the dressing completely peels off.

Do moist wounds heal faster?

Moist wound healing is the practice of keeping a wound in an optimally moist environment in order to promote faster healing. Research has shown that moist wound healing is three to five times quicker than the healing of wounds that are allowed to dry out.

How do you use Hydroactive gel?

Apply DuoDERM Gel directly into the wound. Do not fill the wound beyond the level of the surrounding skin. DuoDERM Gel should be changed when the cover dressing leaks or is removed for routine dressing changes. Maximum recommended wear time is seven days.

What kind of wound is hydrogel used for?

Hydrogels are recommended for wounds that range from dry to mildly exudating and can be used to degrade slough on the wound surface. Hydrogels have a marked cooling and soothing effect on the skin, which is valuable in burns and painful wounds.

When do you remove DuoDERM dressing?

Generally, hydrocolloid dressings last from 3 to 7 days. Sometimes a hydrocolloid dressing starts coming up at the edges earlier. If so, it needs to be changed earlier. Because they keep the wound moist and protected, the wound does not need to be cleaned daily.

How long can a DuoDERM dressing stay on?

The dressings keep nerve endings moist, which helps to provide relief from discomfort. DuoDERM® Dressings can be worn continuously for up to seven days unless they are uncomfortable, there is leakage or there are clinical signs of infection.

A: Airing out most wounds isn’t beneficial because wounds need moisture to heal. Leaving a wound uncovered may dry out new surface cells, which can increase pain or slow the healing process. Most wound treatments or coverings promote a moist — but not overly wet — wound surface.

To help the injured skin heal, use petroleum jelly to keep the wound moist. Petroleum jelly prevents the wound from drying out and forming a scab; wounds with scabs take longer to heal. This will also help prevent a scar from getting too large, deep or itchy.
