In Highland dancing, every dancer wears a kilt, or tartan trews. Male dancers wear jackets, ties, and ‘bonnets’ (hats). Female dancers wear blouses with vests or jackets.

It was after the Battle of Culloden in 1746 that the government in London attempted to purge the Highlands of all unlawful elements by seeking to crush the rebellious clan system. An Act of Parliament was passed which made the carrying of weapons and the wearing of kilts a penal offence.

Photos can be in highland, aboyne or choreography outfits. Have fun with it! The deadline to submit images for the 2020 Ontario Highland Dance Calendar is October 4th. Have a look through your pictures from the last year and talk with your teacher to make sure your studio is represented.

How long does it take to get a dance costume?

Custom fitting is provided for your vests and jackets to ensure your dancer looks her very best on stage. All of my costumes follow the SOBHD regulations for competition. Please plan ahead, and allow 8-16 weeks for your order, especially if through the busy spring season.

When is the hdao indoor dance competition 2019?
