Can you machine vespel?

DuPont™ Vespel® shapes are relatively easy to machine because of their inherent mechanical strength, stiffness and dimensional stability at machining temperatures. In addition, they can be machined with standard metalworking equipment to produce parts to tolerances once considered too close for plastic materials.

What is DuPont Vespel?

DuPont™ Vespel® Polyimide is an extremely high temperature, creep resistant plastic material that is often used in high heat environments where thermoplastic materials lose their mechanical properties.

Who makes vespel?

DuPont™
DuPont™ Vespel® CR-6100 is a composite material designed for use in hostile chemical environments.

What is Vespel sp21?

DuPont™ Vespel® SP-21 is graphite-enhanced with low-friction properties for use with or without lubrication in various applications. Vespel® SP-21 has maximum physical strength, elongation, and toughness. Available as custom parts or stock shapes.

What is torlon material?

Torlon ® is a high performance amorphous (non-crystalline) engineering thermoplastic. Chemically, Torlon ® is a polyamide-imide (PAI), a reaction product of trimellitic anhydride and aromatic diamines. It is called amide-imide because the polymer chain comprises amide linkages alternative with imide linkages.

Is vespel a thermoset?

All polymers can more or less be divided into two categories: thermoplastics and thermosets. The main difference between them is how they react to heat. Thermoplastics like Vespel, for example, melt in heat, while thermosets remain “set” once they’re formed.

Is Kapton conductive?

DuPont™ Kapton® RS is an electrically conductive polyimide film developed for heating applications where a thin, lightweight, uniform heater is needed.

Where is Vespel used?

Vespel is mostly used in aerospace, semiconductor, and transportation technology. It combines heat resistance, lubricity, dimensional stability, chemical resistance, and creep resistance, and can be used in hostile and extreme environmental conditions.

What is polyimide used for?

Polyimide is used for medical tubing, e.g. vascular catheters, for its burst pressure resistance combined with flexibility and chemical resistance. The semiconductor industry uses polyimide as a high-temperature adhesive; it is also used as a mechanical stress buffer.

Is Duratron the same as Torlon?

Duratron PAI (previously known as Torlon PAI) offers a range of versatile performance capabilities and proven performance in a broad range of applications such as high temperature applications, or applications where mechanical performance and dimensional stability are essential.

Does torlon absorb water?

Torlon, like most materials, absorbs water when saturated or placed in high humidity conditions. Glass and carbon fiber reinforced grades absorb less water than 4203. Many of the bearing grades absorb even less.

How big is a Vespel SP-1 sheet?

We also provide unfilled DuPont™ Vespel® SP-1 Sheets that measure 10” x 10” and range from 0.125” to 1.50” in thickness, or can be cut to size based on your application requirements. Contact us to learn more about using Vespel® SP-1 for your high performance and high temperature applications.

What kind of machining do you do for Vespel?

We regularly machine various grades of Vespel at AIP Precision Machining, including the Vespel SP and Vespel SCP family of products from DuPont. The former group is known for their durability and exceptional thermal resistance, while the latter is known for its mechanical properties and thermal stability.

What makes the Vespel SP-1 the best polyimide?

SP-1 provides maximum physical strength, elongation, as well as the best electrical and thermal insulation valves. Vespel® SP-1 is high performance polyimide, which offers a broad combination of temperature resistance, chemical resistance, mechanical toughness, natural lubricity, wear resistance, and insulation properties.

Why are Vespel SP-1 rods used in vacuum?

Vespel® polyimide is widely known and a popular material choice because it provides superior wear and delivers long term performance under extreme operating conditions. Vespel® SP-1 also has low electrical conductivity, excellent thermal insulation properties and performs well in vacuum applications.
