What is DPE system?
What is DPE system?
Dual-phase extraction (DPE), also known as multi-phase extraction, is a technology that uses a high-vacuum system to remove both contaminated groundwater and soil vapor. In DPE systems a high-vacuum extraction well is installed with its screened section in the zone of contaminated soils and groundwater.
What is an extraction well?
How Do They Work? Extraction: SVE involves drilling one or more extraction wells into the contaminated soil to a depth above the water table, which must be deeper than 3 feet below the ground surface. Attached to the wells is equipment (such as a blower or vacuum pump) that creates a vacuum.
How do extraction wells work?
Contaminated vapours are extracted from the soil through horizontal or vertical extraction wells and are treated prior to release into the atmosphere. The circulation of air within the soil vadose zone when applying vacuum increases the oxygen concentration and stimulates biodegradation.

How does a DPE well extraction system work?
One or more extraction wells are drilled down to a given depth in the impacted zone. Piping (a stinger) is lowered into each well. The intake of the stinger is placed at the desired level in the well from which the vapor and water is to be extracted. The DPE vacuum pump creates a very high vacuum that draws contaminated soil vapors out of the soil.
How is high vacuum used in dual phase extraction?
A high vacuum system is applied to simultaneously remove various combinations of contaminated ground water, separate-phase petroleum product, and hydrocarbon vapor from the subsurface. Description: Figure 4-36: Typical Dual Phase Extraction Schematic
Which is more efficient vapor phase extraction or liquid phase extraction?
An important aspect of the DPE process is the lowering of the water table, thereby exposing previously saturated soils to treatment via vapor phase extraction, which is generally more efficient and effective than removal of the petroleum hydrocarbon component via liquid phase extraction.
