What are the entry requirements for the Royal Air Force?
APPLICANTS MUST:
- Be aged 17.5 – 25 years old (Must enter IOT before 26th birthday)
- Have GCSEs at Grade C/4 or SNE at Grade 5 or SCE Standard Grades at Grade 2/SNE 5 in English and Maths and at least three other subjects.
- Be a citizen of the United Kingdom or holder of dual UK/ other nationality.
What happens when you join the RAF?
When you join the RAF, you get access to a whole host of opportunities and benefits. You are paid right from the beginning of initial training, so you can start earning straight away. In addition to your pay, the RAF provides subsidised accommodation, food and sport, as well as free health and dental care.
What do the RAF Regiment do?
The RAF Regiment is a specialist corps founded by Royal Warrant in 1942. Its principal purpose is to counter our adversaries across a wide spectrum of threats, wherever and whenever necessary. The RAF Regiment also prepares non-Force Protection specialists for the rigours of operations.

To enlist, you cannot be younger than 17 (18 for GED holders) or older than 39 years of age. To join as an Officer, you cannot be younger than 18 or older than 39 years of age. To join as a healthcare or ministry professional, you cannot be younger than 18 or older than 48 years of age.
Do you get weekends off in RAF?
When off duty, RAF personnel can leave the base any time they want. Weekends and holidays are free but there are opportunities to do so much more. There are over 100 adventurous training activities available, from mountaineering to skiing and scuba diving to sailing.
Do fighter pilots get paid well?
An Air Force pilot salary depends on the pilot’s rank and how long they’ve been in the military. An entry-level officer with three years of experience earns about $47,000 annually, as of 2017. A top-ranking colonel with three years of experience earns about $92,000 annually.
What is the GPA requirement for Air Force officer?
3.0 or higher
A college GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. The AF is looking for technical degrees and other areas of need. I suggest talking to a recruiter that specializes in officers to discuss options. I am pretty sure it depends your Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) scores not your GPA.
