The Main Library is open to UoB staff and students. Unfortunately, we are still unable to offer access to paid external visitors, SCONUL members, external registrations and day visitors. You will no longer need to book to use the library. Please see our safety rules and find out what services are available.
Is University of Birmingham library open to public?
We have a range of free and open access databases, e-journals and e-books that are available from FindIt@Bham using a guest login. Please note: access to our entire range of visitor resources is limited when searching from an off campus computer.
Can anyone use Birmingham University library?
We regret that our libraries are currently closed to people who are not staff or students of the University. No fee paying visitors, SCONUL, new external registrations, or day visitors will be able to visit. The Cadbury Research Library cannot accept visitors from outside the University of Birmingham at the moment.

What time does UOB library close?
You can return books in the Main Library’s Wolfson Room, Monday-Friday 10:00-16:00, or to the ground floor. Outside of our opening hours, you can return items using the external returns box by the Main Library’s front door.
Can you walk around University of Birmingham?
Campus tours for visitors interested in Undergraduate study take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11.00 am and 2.00 pm. The walking tours are led by an undergraduate student currently studying at the University.

The Library is a stunning modernist building and a public library to boot. It’s free to enter and one I think levels 7 to 9 are roof gardens where you can step out and get amazing views of Birmingham and Centenary Square were it not currently under development. On the top floor is also views, but only behind windows.

What happens if I Lose my library card at the University of Birmingham?
Should you lose your library card you must notify the Library so that we can prevent its misuse. A replacement fee of £10.00 is charged. The University of Birmingham Library is now subject to the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015 .
