The RHI will continue to be paid for installations completed and commissioned before 31 March 2021. After 31 March 2021 new commercial installations may not receive any form of subsidy, unless covered by “tariff guarantees”.

What is Ofgem RHI?

The Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (Domestic RHI) is a government financial incentive to promote the use of renewable heat. People who join the scheme and stick to its rules receive quarterly payments for seven years for the amount of clean, green renewable heat it’s estimated their system produces.

Who runs the RHI scheme?

The UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) makes key policy decisions and energy regulator Ofgem E-Serve administers the scheme. Policy documents are available on the UK Government website. There are two versions of RHI: domestic, and non-domestic.

What scheme will replace RHI?

Clean Heat Grant
When the RHI scheme ends in March 2022, it will be replaced by the Clean Heat Grant – this scheme is due to start a month later, in April 2022. At the moment, the Government are proposing to make the Clean Heat Grant available for just two years ending in March 2024, and the funding is limited to £100m.

Can you get RHI twice?

If you have a central heating system run by 2 different heating sources, you can still claim the RHI. The catch is that your RHI qualifying system will need to be metered, and your payment will be proportional to the amount of heating your renewable actually does in the home.

Can I get green homes grant and RHI?

You can claim both the Domestic RHI and the Green Home Grant for the renewable heat installation. You must claim the Green Home Grant first and then notify Ofgem that you have used it when you apply for accreditation to the Domestic RHI. The Green Homes Grant will then be deducted from your Domestic RHI payments.

What is the maximum RHI payment?

BEIS introduces limits for RHI payments on Domestic installations. The Heat Demand Limits at the current Domestic RHI rates are: for ASHP installations – 20,000 kWh – up to £1,348 a year for 7 years = £9,441. for biomass boilers – 25,000 kWh – up to £1,720 a year for 7 years = £12,040.

Can I still apply for non-domestic RHI?

Please note: The Non-Domestic RHI scheme has now closed to new applicants for accreditation and registration. No applications can be made on or after 1 April 2021 unless an extension application or tariff guarantee has been granted.

How long does non-domestic RHI last?

20 years
The Non-Domestic RHI provides financial support for renewable heat technologies for 20 years. We make payments on a quarterly basis. As long as you’ve correctly sent us the information we require, we aim to pay you within 40 working days from the date we receive it.

How long does the RHI last?

How long do payments last? We’ll make payments every three months in arrears to you, for seven years. You’ll need to continue to meet the scheme rules to receive RHI payments. Payments may be interrupted/otherwise affected if you don’t do so.

Do new builds qualify for RHI?

Yes, providing it is a self-build property. RHI is not available if you are a property developer or have bought a new-build property from a developer.
