Neist Point is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland and can be found on the most westerly tip of Skye near the township of Glendale.
When was the Neist Point walkhighlands built?
As the corner is rounded the lighthouse comes into view for the first time. Continue along the path towards the lighthouse and the former keepers’ cottages (once run as accommodation but now closed down). The complex was built in 1909 at a cost of £4,350 – the engineer being David A Stevenson of the famous Stevenson family of lighthouse builders.
Is there a private area at Neist Point?
The only actual private area is that fenced around the lighthouse and cottages – the rest is the common grazings for Waterstein township. Almost immediately turn left on the path, which then swings right to ease the descent to the headland far below. There is a metal handrail for most of the descent.
How do you get to Neist Point in Skye?
Follow the road as far as it goes and park up in the car park ( Map ) (The picture on the right shows the view from the car park). Walk towards the white double-gates and descend the steep path/steps down the cliff towards the lighthouse.
