Any solo thief can handle him pretty well in the mid teens by setting numerous traps. If you have a low level cleric, cast magic resistance on him and he won’t turn hostile. Basically, with a full party of crappy NPC’s you should wait until the mid teens level. If you have the right chars/items you can do it sooner.
