What math is on the placement test?

The math on a placement test falls into three categories: arithmetic, algebra, and advanced math. Mastering the arithmetic on the test will place you out of one remedial math course. Acing the algebra will allow you skip remedial math entirely. Conquer the advanced math, and you might even place out of College Algebra.

How do I practice a placement test?

Prepare for the Placement Test

  1. Be rested and ready to concentrate.
  2. Read all directions and answer questions carefully.
  3. Take a break between tests or take the tests on different days.
  4. Ask the test administrator for help if you are unsure about directions.
  5. Don’t be concerned if others finish before you do.

Is the placement test hard?

Placement tests are unlike past exams you may have taken in high school. These exams assess general knowledge, which can make it tricky to prepare for them.

Are math placement tests multiple choice?

The Math Placement Exam consists of thirty multiple choice questions. Even though the questions are multiple choice, you should work through each problem as you would on any math test. There is no time limit on the test so work slowly and carefully. You should work on practice questions 21–40 (Algebra).

Why do I have to take the Math placement test?

An absence of credit or a math placement score will prevent students from enrolling in math and some science classes. In the meantime, you should take the placement exam so that you can enroll in math and science classes during Orientation.

    Placement tests in Reading, Writing and Math are required for students who do not have college-ready ACT/SAT scores or official transcripts with qualifying college credit. The Science Placement Test is required only for students who will take college-level Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

    What does my math placement assessment score mean?

    The Mathematics Placement Test score indicates a student’s appropriate level of introductory course and does not earn a student credit for any course. It does not satisfy any requirement for graduation.
