What does FoodCorps do?

Our school-based program helps schools be places where kids have more opportunities to eat healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables—and teaches them to love those foods and eat them on a daily basis.

Is FoodCorps part of AmeriCorps?

FoodCorps is proud to be part of the AmeriCorps Service Network. This means that we are a grantee of AmeriCorps—receiving a portion of our funding from the agency—and a member of a successful service network that includes Habitat for Humanity, City Year, and Teach for America.

How competitive is FoodCorps?

Approximately 1000 people apply for positions with FoodCorps, making our selection rate highly competitive.

How does Foodcorps get kids involved with food and farming?

You’ll cultivate a cafeteria experience that steers students towards the healthiest options and gets them excited to try new foods. You’ll get kids in the cafeteria to try samples during taste tests, and you may even work with food service directors and farmers to get local foods onto the lunch line.

Kelso is driven by the communities and relationships that surround local, real food. In her free time, you can find her exploring Portland, reading, and hanging out with cats. Julia comes to FoodCorps with 10 years of nonprofit finance and growth strategy experience.

Where does Kelso from FoodCorps work now?

She spent two years as a FoodCorps service member in Little Rock, Arkansas before moving to Portland, Oregon to work as a member of FoodCorps’ national staff. Kelso is driven by the communities and relationships that surround local, real food.
