GM cars were MAFless for years, the tunes were speed density until the MAF system were put into place. When I read on the subject the pros and cons were nothing major. SD= easier to tune, could not handle alot of mods very well without having a retune. MAF=ECM could adjust for mods better, harder to tune in the end though.

Its not always about flow either, its about response etc. MAF and mafless are calculating airflow 2 different ways. One is slower than the other (MAF) but mafless must be “dialed in” because it is a complex calculation and relies on a fueling table not a meter called the VE table.
