Is it normal to have a sac but no baby?

A blighted ovum is a pregnancy where a sac and placenta grow, but a baby does not. It is also called an ‘anembryonic pregnancy’ as there is no embryo (developing baby). Because a blighted ovum still makes hormones, it can show up as a positive pregnancy test.

Baby is little, like little, little at that point! It takes perfect placement (almost lucky placement) and an experienced tech to find it that early. Try breathing in and out because what you’re going through is completely normal 🙂 Totally normal! I went in at what I thought was 5w5d and there was just the gestational sac and yolk sac.

With my last pregnancy I had an ultrasound around 7 weeks and they only saw the sac and a shadow of what they thought was the baby. They ended up using a more sensitive ultrasound to actually see the baby. So I wouldn’t stress about it just yet since its so early in your pregnancy.
