Check out the Lantau trail which incorporates many different peaks such as Sunset Peak and one of the highest peaks in HK which is the Lantau Peak. On this trail you can opt to take cable cars, the Mui Wo ferry, or busses. Lantau Trail also provides exquisite views on Tian Tan Buddha, Nam Shan, and Lantau Island.
Most of it is well prepared with dirt track or carved rock steps and stretches in a 70 kilometer circuit from Mui Wo to Tai O. It provides access to excellent hiking and camping areas like the two big peaks and campgrounds around Lantau Peak and Sunset Peak. Time needed: two or three days for the whole route.
How to get to Lantau Peak from Mui Wo?
Lantau Peak is hidden in the clouds behind this mountain. Take the ferry (Pier 5) to Lantau Island, then take the 3M bus located just outside the Mui Wo ferry terminal. Get off at Pak Kung Au (ask the bus driver if unsure as this isn’t a popular stop, and you don’t want to miss it!). Once at the Buddha, you have more than one option.
