How do I get from Kuranda to Barron Falls?
Driving to Barron Falls takes roughly 45 minutes from Cairns. Just past the small township of Kuranda, you’ll see signs indicating the way to the waterfall. This takes you down through some rainforest, onto Barron Falls road and eventually to the waterfall and walking trail car park.
How long is the walk to Barron Falls?
Barron Falls Lookout Track is a 1.2km, grade 1 return hike, located in Barron Gorge National Park, Queensland. The hike should take approximately 40 mins to complete.
Can you swim at Barron Gorge?
The Barron Gorge National Park is an absolute Must for freshwater hole swimming. These amazing waterholes of which there are plenty are beautiful. In the summer months stingers are in the ocean and make swimming very hard so freshwater creeks are the way to go.

Stoney Creek is reached via a short, 20-minute drive from Cairns CBD down the Western Arterial Road. You’ll need to turn onto Stoney Creek Road (Kamerunga) which leads through the rainforest to the car park.
Can you see Barron Falls from Skyrail?
The Barron Falls can be viewed from Kuranda Scenic Railway’s Barron Falls Station viewing platform and with three separate lookouts at Skyrail’s Barron Falls Station, photographers of all levels are drawn to the up-close-and-personal views that are on offer.
Can you drive Kuranda?
Yes, you certainly can drive to Kuranda. The turnoff from the Capt Cook Hwy is at the roundabout at Smithfield and is very well-signed. The road is indeed scenic, and is in excellent condition, with at least one lookout.
Can you swim in Kuranda?
This beautiful national park is off the main highway between Kuranda and Mareeba, about 5 kilometres down an unsealed road. The first area you come to has plenty of shallow areas to dip your toes but if you want a deeper swimming area head further up the hill and follow the signs.

Popular swimming spots such as Mossman Gorge are considered safe from saltwater crocodiles, with the staff monitoring the region throughout the year to know the whereabouts of the local crocs. However, the saltwater crocodile can be found in the murky waterways, rivers, and swamps nearby the gorge.

How to get to Barron Falls from Kuranda?
To access Barron Falls lookout, from Kuranda, drive 3.5 km along Barron Falls Road, following the signposts to the Barron Falls car park. This is the access to the Barron Falls lookout, which is also a stop on the scenic railway line. Wrights lookout (and the start of the Surprise Creek walk) is a further 1.4 km along the road from the car park.
Where do you go to see Barron Falls?
The Barron Falls may be viewed and accessed by road via the Kennedy Highway that crosses the Barron River upstream of the falls, near Kuranda. The narrow-gauge Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Skyrail aerial tram also leads from the coastal plain to the tablelands.
Where are the toilets at Barron Falls lookout?
Toilets are located in the car park Barron Falls Road, Kuranda. 3 klm return (1 hour walking time) – from the Barron Falls car park, walk along Wrights lookout road to Wrights lookout, which offers wide-ranging vistas over Barron Gorge, towards the city of Cairns and the coast. Return along the same track.
Where is Barron Falls waterfall in Cairns located?
Barron Falls resides in the Atherton Tablelands Region. It is administered by the Tablelands Regional Council.
