Update: After the installation of the model 1225 cartridge, the faucet works without any leaks from the stem. With the addition of a new knob the whole fixture is working better than new.
What’s the difference between the old and New Moen cartridges?
I think the old brass body was 1225, and the new plastic body is the 1125-B. The 1225-B was the solution to the single handle crossover problem. I’ve never researched it, but that’s what one of my origonal journeymen told me???

The 1225 is the Danco replica (plastic, the B is Brass) of the original MOEN 1200 (always brass, btw) cartridge. The divertor is built into the design of this cartridge – which is why diversion never works quite right with the 1225 installed.
