Does Innershield wire need gas?
I have only welded with an Innershield® wire, which did not use any shielding gas. Just like covered or stick electrodes, they rely solely on their slag system and the gases produced from chemical reactions in the arc to protect the molten metal from the atmosphere (see Figure 1).
What is Innershield?
innershield is a cored wire with flux in the core. The flux shields the weld pool. It has good penetration and your able to weld outdoors in windy conditions where your shielding gas would get blown away. The settings are mostly the same for innershield exept there’s no gas involved.
