How is Brainspotting therapy done?

Brainspotting (BSP) allows clients to guide themselves through their own subconscious. They choose what issue they’d like to start with. Then, they explore in and around it with only light guidance by their therapist. This method uses fixated, steady eye positions.

What happens during a Brainspotting session?

A formally trained mental health counselor performs brainspotting as part of a therapy plan. During the process, the therapist is watching for subtle reflexive signals that indicate a brainspot has been detected: Using a pointer, the therapist guides the patient’s gaze across his or her field of vision.

Once a solid therapeutic relationship has been established, generally two to four sessions seem to produce positive effects. However, due to the uniqueness of each client and their experiences, the number of sessions required varies, meaning as many as eight or more sessions can be necessary.

What do you do for Brainspotting?

In brainspotting therapy, bi-lateral music can help stimulate processing. It works by stimulating both sides of your brain through sound. Your therapist will likely offer you to wear headphones and play this specific type of music designed to help your brain process.

How do you get certified in Brainspotting?

Become a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner

  1. Completion of Brainspotting Phase 1 and 2 trainings in person or online.
  2. A minimum of six(6) hours of consultation from an Advanced Brainspotting Practitioner.
  3. Fifty hours of practice with BSP, each session documented on session form.
