Do water softeners have bypass valves?
What’s a Bypass Valve? A lot of water softeners come with a bypass valve that lets you direct water away from your system. If your unit has one of these devices in place, you can basically turn your softener “off,” without disrupting the flow of water into your home.
Should water softener bypass be open or closed?
The outlet, inlet and bypass should all be facing the same direction. You can easily turn off your water softener by closing the outlet and inlet valves by about a quarter, then open the bypass valve with another quarter turn. The outlet, inlet and bypass should all be facing the same direction still.
What kind of Bypass does a water softener have?
Most residential units will have either a valve that you either push in or turn to put your water softener in bypass. Commercial softeners often have a three valve bypass operation. To find out what type of bypass valve your water softener has, take a look at the top or the back or top of your unit.
How do I re-activate my water softener?
To re-active your softener, simply press the button in fully on the opposite side of your bypass valve. Locate the level bypass valve. Move the level to bypass mode. Most units will have this written on them. If not, you simply move the lever to the opposite side of where it currently is.

How do you remove the clips so you can move the water?
Once the motor advances to the fill portion of the cycle the presser will bleed off. After the pressure is released, push the bypass assembly towards the softener. This should loosen the clips and make it easier to remove them. I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
