UPDATE (February 10, 2021) – Much of this park is closed due hazardous conditions caused by the Dolan Fire and recent debris flows from heavy rains. The parking lot, restroom, Waterfall Overlook Trail and Partington Cove Trail are open. These areas contain numerous compromised trees and trail hazards.

It comes from manganese garnet in the hills being eroded and washed down the creek to the beach. You are more likely to see the purple sand after winter storms.

It starts on the east side of Highway 1 near the Partington Vista Point turnout and leads to the top of the ridge where the remains of a historic tin house are located. The Tan Bark Trail can be accessed from this fire road. The Waters Trail is currently closed at its’ junction with the Tin House fire road.
