Why is there standing water in the bottom of my refrigerator under crisper drawers?

Why is there standing water in the bottom of my refrigerator under crisper drawers?

If your fridge has water pooling at the bottom, the defrost tube is your MOST likely suspect. Your defrost tube is what carries the water all the way down to the drain pan where it eventually evaporates. This tube can get clogged with ice or debris which leads to water backing up and leaking back into the fridge.

What happens if fridge drain hole blocked?

Many people aren’t aware that their fridge contains a drain hole. This drain hole is in place to catch the moisture which collects in a fridge, particularly that which builds up on the back wall of the fridge. If the drain hole becomes blocked, this then causes problems for the rest of your refrigerator.

Why does my Refrigerator have a leak in the drain?

The biggest reason for a refrigerator leak is a clogged drain tube. With self-defrosting refrigerators, the defrost cycle occurs about every 4-6 hours. This continuous cycle leaves ample opportunity for a blocked drain tube to become a big disaster. If you notice that your refrigerator is leaking, check the drain tube first.

What should I do if my Refrigerator drain tube is clogged?

When your drain tube is clogged and fails to drain water away from the fridge appropriately, you will usually notice water pooling in the fridge. Pay attention to the area below the fruit and vegetable bins and the tray under the freezer. Another sign that your drain tube may be clogged is ice collected in the bottom of the freezer.

Where is the defrost drain on a refridgerator?

In some refrigerator brands, the defrost drain is routed down the back of the refrigerator interior rather than down the exterior, causing water to pool below the crisper drawers at the bottom of the fridge. If this is the type of water leak you’re seeing, that means the defrost drain is located on the back wall inside the freezer.
