Prior to opening for the season in March 2016, the Reston Zoo was purchased by Vanessa Stoffel and Jacob Roer, who changed its name to Roer’s Zoofari. On the evening of Monday March 8, 2021, a fire broke out in one of the large two story barns, claiming the lives of two giraffes.
