Living on Campus The University of Chicago House System plays an important role in a student’s academic and social adjustment to College. All first year students live in the University House System to help facilitate their transition to life at the University.

UChicago’s seven residence halls contain 39 Houses, each sharing rooms clustered around House common areas within the residence hall. The Houses have 80 students on average—though they can range from 40 to 110 students—from all four years in the College, all around the world, and all areas of study.
