What WT fork oil should I use?

What WT fork oil should I use?

Most suspension fluids that are lighter than 5wt are designed specifically to be used in a shock. Fork oils heavier than 5wt get too thin when they get hot. Stick with 5wt fork oil.

What does WT mean on oil?

Oil weight is a term used to describe the viscosity of an oil, which means how well it flows at a specific temperature. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) assigns a viscosity number, or weight, to oil based on its flow at 210 degrees F, which is roughly the standard operating temperature for most motors.

What does heavier weight fork oil do?

And yes, heavier weight for oil will definitely help. It’s an easy and cheap way to stiffen forks. It will make them less supple for small bumps, but it’s fairly easy to swap the oils until you find a weight that is decent for jumps and decent for the trails.

What is 3wt?

3wt, 4wt,and 5wt refers to the thickness, strength, and stiffness of the rod. A 3wt rod is very light and meant for smaller fish. As you go up in weight, the larger the fish the rod can handle. A 5wt Rod is a nice rod for fishing for trout.

Can you upgrade your dampers by replacing the oil inside?

Refill the inner cylinder and then carefully reload the piston assembly to minimize air bubbles. Back on the dyno, the 10-weight oil showed about a 10-percent increase in force over the stock fluid at 0.1 meter/second. While that was an improvement over stock, we admit to feeling disappointed.

How much fluid is in a damper cylinder?

We unscrewed the gland nut at the top of each strut body and dumped the factory fill into a graduated cylinder. Each strut held approximately 225-milliliters of fluid. The stock fluid looked thin—based on our experience, we’d guess that it was 5-weight.

Can you replace the oil in a monotube damper?

If doing this procedure on gas-charged units, take caution: Wrap a rag around the damper to contain the mess, and wear eye protection. Our friends in the industry warn against replacing the oil in gas-charged, monotube units.

What kind of oil do off road racers use?

Among racers there’s always been rumors and speculation about what to use, so we’ve put together this chart to help compare oils from TLR and Team Associated- two common brands used in off-road racing.
