What is WVO biodiesel?
What is WVO biodiesel?
Biodiesel production from waste vegetable oil (WVO)[edit] Waste vegetable oil (WVO) may be collected, filtered, centrifuged and burned directly as a fuel source for combustion engines and heating furnaces which have been converted for biodiesel use. Or, waste vegetable oil can be processed into biodiesel fuel.
What is WVO fuel?
WVO is similar to diesel in the sense that it also has a low flash point. A diesel engine can use “fuel oils” because it creates more compression in the cylinders than a gasoline engine. It also runs its fuel through a high-pressure injection pump, which sprays the fuel into each cylinder in a fine mist.
Can you make biodiesel at home?
If you’re steering your household toward a more self-sufficient lifestyle, maybe you’d like to add do-it-yourself fuel to your list of goals. Biodiesel can be brewed from waste vegetable oil or animal fats, which you can collect free from restaurants, or you can grow soybeans or canola to press your own oil.
How to filter vegetable oil, biodiesel and other liquids?
This information is aimed for filtering vegetable oil and biodiesel but is essentially universal for any liquid filtering. Filtering can be done using strainers, filter bags, settling techniques and in the poor man’s method aka: using old clothing (not recommended as it makes a mess and requires a LOT of old clothes.) Why Filter? Why Filter?
How does the WVO waste oil centrifuge keep the oil hot?
Because the oil flows from the bottom up, the element is sure to always be bathed in oil when filtering which means the oil stays hotter. In testing, we set ours at 150° F and it easily kept the oil up to temperature even when flowing at 15 gallons per hour. We especially liked the integrated thermostat! Talk about one slick unit!
How to filter large amounts of WVO used?

How big of a filter do I need for biodiesel?
Also for biodiesel, we have the series fuel oil pumps which should be ok for 16″ and 32″ long filter bags. A ball valve may be needed to choke down the inlet to the pump if flow is too high though.
