South Mountain Park has tons of hiking trails to the summit but my favorite thing about this daytrip destination is that you can drive up to an amazing view of Phoenix!

Can you hike South Mountain?

This trail offers a steady climb to the upper areas of South Mountain Park. Hike the extension trail that leads to Dobbins Lookout and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley below. The Holbert Trail also provides a route to connect with the National Trail just east of the T.V.

Why is Cholla Trail closed?

The trail closed in March 2020 after a boulder, loosened by recent rain, injured a hiker. The city of Phoenix set to work immediately on rock remediation to secure the trail and repair damage done by the 500,000 or so people that hike both Cholla and Echo Canyon Trails each year.

When is South Mountain Park closed to the public?

From 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. (park operating hours) on the fourth Sunday of the month, the park roadway will be closed to vehicle traffic after the main Central Ave. entrance.
