Where is the Manifold Valley?
The Manifold rises at Flash Head just south of Buxton near Axe Edge, at the northern edge of the White Peak, known for its limestone beds. It continues for 12 miles (19 km) before it joins the Dove. For part of its course, it runs underground (except when in spate), from Wetton Mill to Ilam.
Is the manifold trail flat?
As it was nice day we decided hire some bikes from Brown End Farm Cycle Hire which were good quality and good friendly service. The cycle trail was straight forward flat 8.5 miles and very family friendly. we stopped at Wetton Mill for tea and cake.

Where does the manifold way start?
The car park for starting the Manifold Way in Waterhouses is located behind the Crown Hotel (left and left again). There used to be a cycle hire centre here but that is now closed. The other end of the Manifold Way is Hulme End. The car park is near to the station building which also houses a visitor shop and toilets.

Where does the Tissington Trail start and finish?
It runs north from Asbbourne in Derbyshire as far as Parsley Hay. From the starting point in Ashbourne The route runs past or close to Haywood, Fenny Bentley, Tissington, Alsop en le Dale, Biggin and Hartington before finishing at Parsley Hay. There are plenty of paths leading off from the trail.
Where does the river Manifold disappear?
The River Manifold disappears underground, except in very wet weather, when it reaches Wetton Mill and does not reappear until it reaches the grounds of Ilam Hall. The Manifold’s only tributary the river Hamps also flows underground through a series of caves and subterranean passages.

The Peak District National Park has waterfalls hidden all over it, from very obscure places to popular well-known locations. Seeing the water cascading over rocks and hearing it crashing into pools below is somewhat hypnotic as the water keeps flowing and that’s what I love so much.

The Tissington Trail is a lovely route and is easily manageable [perhaps just part of the route] for beginners. No special clothing needed! Hybrids work well too!

Where is the Manifold Valley Visitor Centre in Hartington?
Manifold Valley Visitor Centre (Tel. 01298 84679) Located at Hulme End on the B5054 two miles west of Hartington. It is housed in the old Hulme End Station, where information displays outline the history of the railway, the industries and local community.
