Are GSR and b16 head studs the same?
Are GSR and b16 head studs the same?
The GSR has a raised casting between Cyl 2 and 3. The type-R shares the same head studs with the B16 from both the factory and aftermarket alike. This is because the head dictates the studs.
What head is better for B20 VTEC?
B18C2 (P72-VTiR) Head- More Compression, , In stock form a B20 bottom will benefit with a B18C2 Head due to its adding more compression (41.cc) to a B20 block. VTi-R head also will be good to modify but i believe the PR3 head when both modified will outperform the P72 head.
How do I know if I have a GSR head?
The easiest way to tell is flip the head upside down. Look at the shape of the combustion chamber. The GSR (B18C1) head is ‘square’. The intake and exuast side of the chamber is flat – giving a larger and better quench pad area.
Is a b16 head VTEC?
Obviously, you must start with a VTEC head in order to build an LS/VTEC. Your choices are a b16, a TypeR, or a GSR. The b16 head is the same cast as the ITR, which means that the better flowing ITR manifold bolts on. The GSR uses a different intake manifold and has a smaller combustion chamber, which some prefer.
Can you put a VTEC head on a B20?
Combined with a VTEC head, the B20 bottom end will produce awesome power and easily attain 20+ft/lbs more torque over a similarly built B18C. The process of building a B20/VTEC motor is simple. It is exactly the same as doing an LS/VTEC conversion.
Will a B20 head fit on a b18 block?
Registered. The B20 and the B18B are the same heads; the only difference is that the intake camshaft on the B20Z is slightly more aggressive. Aside from that there is no difference, especially in terms of flow.
How can you tell if you have a b16 head?
Re: how can i tell if i have a b16 head or itr?? Right; if its a complete head, the easiest way to check is to just look at the valve springs. ITR will have an inner set.

Can you put a VTEC head on a non VTEC block?
The non vtec engine should be a d17a1. The vtec engine will be a d17a2. The lower end, the block, is the same and will bolt up to your transmission. However the head, ECU, and exhaust system are different.

Which is better a GSR head or a B16 head?
Tough question. Here’s the deal…B16 heads share the same bolt pattern as ITR’s for the intake manifold. They are easier to find aftermarket intake manifolds for than GSR heads. However, GSR heads have a distinct advantage over B16/ITR heads.
What’s the difference between ITR and GSR heads?
ITR/B16/92-93 heads are built from the same exact casts (PR3), while 94+ GSR heads are built from a different cast (P72) which is why the intake manifold bolt pattern is different (from here on, 92-93 GSR heads will be referred to as B16 heads). ITR heads have a slight hand port job on the intake side from the factory.
Can a B16 head be taken off a b20vtec?
But, keep in mind that if you do it, your cam timing may be slightly affected, as well as your piston to valve clearance and compression ratio. Be careful how much you take off. Here are pics of my ’00 B16 head fresh from the machine shop: Vtec head preparation.
Is it worth buying an itr head for a lsvtec?
Let’s first start off with your choices. There are B16 heads, ITR heads, and GSR heads. IMO, it is never worth buying an ITR head, if you plan on upgrading the springs/retainers/cams anyway. They are amazing heads from the factory, but B16/GSR heads can be had and built for far less.
