What is replacing RHI?

When the RHI scheme ends in March 2022, it will be replaced by the Clean Heat Grant – this scheme is due to start a month later, in April 2022. At the moment, the Government are proposing to make the Clean Heat Grant available for just two years ending in March 2024, and the funding is limited to £100m.

Is RHI scheme ending?

The Domestic RHI is due to close to new applicants on 31 March 2022. Once commissioned, payments will be made for 7 years. The Non-domestic RHI is due to close to new applicants on 31 March 2021.

Can I still apply for non-domestic RHI?

Please note: The Non-Domestic RHI scheme has now closed to new applicants for accreditation and registration. No applications can be made on or after 1 April 2021 unless an extension application or tariff guarantee has been granted.

When did Ofgem change the rules for biomass boilers?

In October 2018 OFGEM changed the rules relating to the Non-Domestic RHI meaning that you can now replace your unwanted & miss-sold biomass boilers with a Brand-New Reliable System. Recent changes in legislation will allow boiler owners receiving payments from the non-domestic RHI to replace broken or miss-sold biomass with a new boiler.

When does RHI start paying for biomass heat?

This change came into effect from 1st October 2018. Once a non-domestic project has been RHI accredited the recipient should get payments for the renewable heat produced by their system for 20 years. Although some biomass boilers will have a life expectancy beyond 20 years, others may struggle to function efficiently for this full period.
