What is half damper control?
What is half damper control?
The Half Damper feature reproduces the fine control of an acoustic piano’s damper pedal to control the sustain over time: pressing the pedal fully down makes the sound last longer, while letting up on the pedal part of the way slightly mutes the sustained sound.
How does a half damper pedal work?
Half pedalling means partially pressing down the sustain pedal so the dampers only lightly touch the strings. Use this if you want a slightly richer tone, without blurring the sound. Some pianists use it for Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, or to make Mozart sound less “dry” (pedals are never included in his notation).
How does the damper pedal on a Kronos piano work?
When the damper pedal on an acoustic piano is held and you strike notes, other strings in the piano will vibrate due to sympathetic resonance, adding subtle overtones to your sound based on the proximity and the velocity of your key strike. Kronos pianos respond in a similar manner.
