Can I use antifreeze to winterize my pool?
Can I use antifreeze to winterize my pool?
Ethylene Glycol should never be used in winterizing a skimmer or pool. To winterize a skimmer, just pour pool antifreeze into the skimmer. For other pipes, you can introduce the antifreeze with a funnel and hose set-up. Don’t pour pool antifreeze into your pool equipment – pump, filter, heater.
Do you put antifreeze in inground pool?
Using antifreeze really is only an option if you have an inground pool. You can add it to the pipes to prevent any leftover water from freezing, expanding, and damaging them. If you are going to blow out all of the pool plumbing pipes and are quite confident in doing this, there really isn’t a reason to use antifreeze.
When to remove antifreeze from inground pool lines?
Preparing your water lines for winter is critical in protecting the money you have invested in your inground pool. Although you try to empty all the water from the lines, antifreeze works as insurance to prevent any remaining water from racking pipes or valves during the dead of winter.
How to winterize an inground pool in 9 Easy Steps?
Shut off the pump, turn valve back to filter, turn filter back on. Note lower pressure on filter tank, and increased flow rate. After backwashing and rinsing out the filter, turn the power off and set it to “winterize”. Then remove the inlet hose from the pool pump and the outlet hose from the pool. Attach one of those to the pool’s inlet nozzle.
Can a skimmer be winterized with antifreeze?
With the addition of some pool antifreeze (see below), this may be a suitable skimmer winterization for a pool in growing zones 7-10. Northern pools should blow the lines out with air. See my earlier blog post Inground Pool Winterizing Procedures for more information on how to blow out or winterize skimmer pipes.
What should I put in my Pool line to keep it from freezing?
When the water has completely drained out of the plumbing lines, put Winterizing Plugs into the return line and skimmer lines. Add Pool Line Antifreeze to all lines. Antifreeze should be added at the rate of one gallon per 10 feet of pipe. Place a Gizzmo into the skimmer to seal the skimmer pipe and absorb any ice pressure.
