What is the loop setting on a hearing aid?

A hearing loop (sometimes called an audio induction loop) is a special type of sound system for use by people with hearing aids. The hearing loop provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to ‘T’ (Telecoil) setting.

The sound source is picked up using a connection, where the signal is then connected to a loop driver. The hearing aid then does the rest of the work – adjusting the sound to the individual’s needs.

What kind of Technology is a hearing loop?

Technically known as Audio Frequency Induction Loop Systems (AFILS), hearing loops consist of a special amplifier and a hidden copper wire that transmits sound via a magnetic field. The wire creates a “looped zone” in any size venue from a large auditorium to a taxi.

What kind of tape do you use for a loop cable?

A 100m reel of 0.5mm2 insulated flat copper foil tape. Ideal for use as a floor ‘loop’ under light duty carpets in audio-frequency induction loop systems. Protective tape (order code TAPE) is also required to hold the cable down and reduce the likelihood of damage.

What kind of cable do I need for an induction loop?
