How do I pass the HiSET Writing test?

Here is how you can best organize your time:

  1. Step 1 – Read the 1st Passage and take notes (5 minutes max)
  2. Step 2 – Read the 2nd Passage and take notes (5 minutes max)
  3. Step 3 – Plan your 5-paragraph essay: pre-write your thesis and supporting ideas (5 min max)
  4. Step 4 – Write your Essay (30 minutes max)

What is the HiSET Writing test?

The HiSET Writing exam is quite different from its sister subject tests, in terms of length. The purpose of this portion of the exam is to assess how well you can compose an argument and back up your own perspective in a written context. The multiple choice section of the Writing exam may feel just as familiar to you.

How many questions is the HiSET written test?

All sections are multiple-choice, (40 – 50 questions) and the Writing section also requires test takers to write an essay. The HiSET test lasts several hours, and is not easy to pass.

Can you take the HiSET test online at home?

You can take the HiSET exam at home if you meet your HiSET state requirements and are 18 years of age or older. If you’re 16 or 17 years old, you must apply with and be approved by your state. Contact your state directly to find out if the at home option is available to underage test takers.
