What is the Cavum Vergae?
What is the Cavum Vergae?
Cavum vergae is a midline cavity of the brain, posterior to the septum pellucidum which often communicates with a cavum septum pellucidum. While the clinical significance of this anatomic finding is not clear, we have seen 6 pediatric patients with cavum vergae who had neurologic abnormalities.
How common is Cavum Vergae?
Cavum vergae is present in around 30% of newborns and persists in only 1% of adults. Formerly, SP and CSP were known as fifth and sixth ventricles, respectively. However, since the cyst cavity is not continuous with the ventricular system and lacks the choroid plexus, this nomenclature is no longer used [2-6].
What is a CSP MRI?
Cavum septi pellucidi (CSP) is an important landmark in the prenatal ultrasound evaluation of the fetal brain, and is a marker for normal central forebrain development.

Is the cavum Vergae a common anatomical variant?
Cavum vergae. The cavum vergae (CV), along with the cavum septum pellucidum (CSP) that lies immediately anterior to it, is a persistence of the embryological fluid-filled space between the leaflets of the septum pellucidum and is a common anatomical variant .
Is the CSP anterior to the cavum Vergae?

When does the cavum Vergae close in a baby?
By term, the cavum vergae is closed in 97% of babies, whereas the cavum septum pellucidum persists in most at this stage 4. Cavum septum pellucidum closure to form a single septum pellucidum occurs by 6 months of age in 85% of cases but may persist to adulthood in 15% 3 .
When does the cavum septum and Vergae fuse?
Development The septa of the cavum septum pellucidum and vergae begin to fuse from posterior to anterior from approximately 24 weeks gestation. By term, the cavum vergae is closed in 97% of babies, whereas the cavum septum pellucidum persists in most at this stage 4.
