Is waves worth the money?

Waves plugins can be great value for money on discounted prices. I don’t recommend buying them at full price, because Waves are rotating discounts so frequently. I have had all Waves plugins for many years now (I am affiliated with Waves and I get them for free). So I have pretty good perspective on their catalog.

Is UAD better than waves?

The argument for waves would be that you get far more plugins for the money and arguably they’re on the same level as the UAD however the CPU load is probably going to end up being quite high. UAD does have the external DSP processing (however no education discount/less frequent sales) so the CPU load is lighter.

Is the waves v-eq4 a 3 or 4 band EQ?

The Waves V-EQ4 is part of the V-series which models Neve hardware. The Waves V-EQ3 is a similar plug-in but has different features. In practice, I prefer to use the V-EQ4 on individual channels, while using the 3 band eq on sub/bus mixes. The 4 band eq definitely has great controls and allows for more ‘surgical’ equalization.
