Do you need both 8 pin and 4 pin CPU power?

Do you need both 8 pin and 4 pin CPU power?

The 4 pin is only necessary if you are doing extreme overclocking, such as LN2. Otherwise the 8 pin will provide all the power you will need.

Can you use a 4-pin in a 8 pin?

The 8-pin connector is literally designed as two of the 4-pin connectors put together. It is entirely possible to just plug the 4-pin connector in the 8-pin slot. It won’t damage anything, but the motherboard will detect the difference and either not start up at all, or run in a VERY restricted mode.

Can 6-pin GPU connect to 8 pin?

Product Description. The Cable Matters 6-Pin PCI to 8-pin Adapter Power Cable provides a convenient solution for powering a video graphics card from a PSU with only a 6-PIn PCIe power connection. Power a new video graphics card with an existing 6-pin PCIe power connection on your PSU.

Can you use a 8 pin on a 4 pin motherboard?

Our power supply units (PSUs) use an 8-pin EPS12v CPU cable that can be split into two 4-pin connectors. If you want to connect our PSU into a 4-pin EPS motherboard port, simply pull the two halves of the connector apart and connect one half into the motherboard port.

Will a 4 pin CPU connector work in a 8 pin socket?

If your power supply only has a 4-pin connector, it’s still quite likely that you can use it in an 8 pin port. If compatible then it will go in on “one side” of the 8-pin connector. This will likely give enough power, but beware over-clocking.

Can you use a 6-pin on a 8 pin motherboard?

No, the 6+2 pin is for pcie supplementary power, it’s for GPU power basically the 8 pin on the mobo is for cpu power. Your power supply should have either a 4+4pin or a 4pin for cpu power, use that.

Is Molex to 8 pin safe?

Yes, using an adapter is safe.

Is SATA to 6-pin safe?

If you are trying to use a SATA power to 6-pin PCI-e adapter to power a GPU, is not a good idea. Your PSU does not have 6-pin PCI-e because is not able to deliver the power (AMPs or voltage or both) a GPU needs. You could cause damage the PSU or the GPU or both.

Is SATA to 8 pin safe?

Its generally not a safe way to get the amperage to the unit. Adapters are typically never a good choice, SATA and Molex are the two worst to use.

Can you plug a 6-pin into a 4 pin?

No, the 6-pin connector is only for PCIe device and would fry your CPU/mobo. You PSU has a 4-pin connector (all ATX PSUs in the last 8+ years do).

Can you use a 6 pin on a 8 pin motherboard?

What is a 8 pin connector?

the 8 pin connector is what is called an EPS 12V connector. I was originally used in servers but once cpu’s on the home desktop side started using the 12V rail on the psu just to function properly, that is when the 8 pin became a truly universal standard.

What is motherboard power supply?

A motherboard power supply is the replaceable unit inside a computer that delivers power to the system. Also known as a power supply unit (PSU), it provides cabling that runs from the unit to the case’s power button, to the motherboard, drives, graphics card and fan(s).

What are power supply pins?

Almost all integrated circuits (ICs) have at least two pins that connect to the power rails of the circuit in which they are installed. These are known as the power-supply pins. However, the labeling of the pins varies by IC family and manufacturer.

What is power supply cable?

A power cord, line cord, or mains cable is an electrical cable that temporarily connects an appliance to the mains electricity supply via a wall socket or extension cord.
