Home-Start’s history While this idea remains at the heart of our work, we have created new ways of helping parents and their children to meet the changing needs of families. This idea that started in Leicester, spread across the UK and is now a movement around the world.

Who is Home-Start?

Home-Start is a Voluntary Home Service in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one child under 5 where the parents are experiencing difficulty in their parenting roles or are under stress.

What is Home-Start program?

Home-Start is a voluntary home visiting service that offers practical support and mentoring to families with children under the age of five. Trained volunteers are linked to families on a one-to-one basis to provide support. Home-Start is an evidence-based program licenced internationally.

Home-Start helps families to access their local:

  • Children’s Centre,
  • Citizens Advice Bureau,
  • local mental health services,
  • doctors and dentists,
  • housing and financial advice,
  • or illness, addiction or disability support groups.

Founded in 1975, Homestarts is a non-profit organization dedicated to the success of housing co-operatives. We provide management, maintenance, restoration, training, consulting, and community development services to co-ops throughout Ontario.

What kind of services does home start offer?

The Behavioral Health team at Home Start provides therapy services to children, families, and adults, both in the community and at the Home Start Inc. Counseling Center. Most services are FREE to clients.
