What is a VT15?
What is a VT15?
The VT15 is a universal TPMS sensor activation tool to assist in the reset of TPMS. This tool is commonly used in conjunction with the OEM diagnostic scan tool, enabled with TPMS functions. Once a vehicle is in learn mode, use the VT15 to trigger the sensors, allowing the new sensor ID’s to be captured by the ECU.
Can you reprogram a TPMS sensor?
Yes, you do. After you must have programmed the TPMS sensors, you will need to write a new TMPS sensor ID to the vehicle’s ECU. This process is known as a “relearn procedure” and can only be executed with a TPMS relearn tool.
What does TPMS relearn mean?
A relearn refers to the process of electronically pairing a new TPMS sensor to the vehicle’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System. A TPMS relearn is always required when a new TPMS sensor or sensors are installed. TPMS Vehicle relearn procedures vary by automaker. Some vehicles relearn automatically when you drive them.
What does a TPMS activation tool do?
A TPMS activation or trigger tool allows the user to “wake up” or activate the sensors while in “sleep mode” or while inactivate. A TPMS decoding tool can trigger or activate sensors, receive TPMS sensor information and send the TPMS sensor information to the vehicle’s ECU.
How much does it cost to reset TPMS?
The service kit costs $5-$10 per wheel on most vehicles. A special TPMS tool and additional time are also needed to check and reset the sensor system. In the event pressure sensors need to be replaced, the cost ranges from $50-$250 each depending on vehicle type.
How long does it take for TPMS to reset?
Press the TPMS reset button and hold it until the light blinks three times, then release it. Start the car and let it run for 20 minutes to reset the sensor. You’ll usually find the tire pressure monitor reset button beneath the steering wheel. Check your user’s manual if you’re having trouble locating it.
Can you reset TPMS with scan tool?
You must activate the sensors and drive your vehicle with the auto-relearn method. For the OBD method, connect a TPMS scan tool to the vehicle ECU and enter the sensor information directly into the vehicle. If you’re using the stationary method, use an activation tool and put the car in relearn mode.
Do I need a TPMS relearn tool?
Vehicle relearn is a standard TPMS service step With the exception of some Chrysler and Mazda models that may be relearned to the vehicle via a driving procedure, a TPMS scan tool is required to complete the vehicle relearn procedure.
