What is a Dendro coral?
What is a Dendro coral?
The Dendro Coral is considered one of the most popular corals within the LPS (Large Polyp Stony Coral) category, which also includes Favites Corals and Goniopora Coral. This species of coral is a non-photosynthetic, therefore will need to be fed on a regular basis and require no lighting.
How long does it take to grow coral frags?
It can take anything from a few hours to 1-2 weeks for the coral frag to secure itself properly to the placeholder, and for the polyps to open back up. Once they do, the coral should look plump and healthy. From there, the coral frag will continue to grow – albeit slowly.
How many coral frags can I add at once?
I’ve added over 30 to 40 frags at one time to my 55 gallon with no problems. Just make sure you have good water conditions.

Will coral attach itself to rock?
Free-swimming coral larvae attach themselves to submerged rocks or other hard surfaces at the edges of islands or continents to begin the process of forming coral reefs. Corals prefer clear and shallow water, where lots of sunlight filters through to their symbiotic algae.
Do corals need light at night?
The majority of coral growth occurs during the day as a byproduct of photosynthesis which is a means to regulate ph inside the coral tissue. Very little calcification occurs during the night. Complete darkness is not necessary, nor natural.
Should you add coral or fish first?
For corals vs. fish, it comes down to which is more sensitive. Do the hardiest first, then slowly add the more sensitive animals over a couple months (being wary of adding any overly aggressive fish early). So for example, if you want a mandarin and mushrooms, go with the mushrooms first.

Also having a lot of corals will cause a depletion of other important levels that corals need to stay healthy.
Can coral grow out of water?
To survive, the corals (stony and soft) produce a protective coating of mucus in order to stay wet. All of them retract their polyps during this time, and soft corals shrink down and slump over. By the way, giant clams (tridacnids) are also left exposed at times, and can obviously survive some time out of water, too.
Can coral get too much light?
Corals exposed to too much light too quickly may expell zooxanthelae,bleach/loose color. The light stimulates unhelathy levels of zooxanthelae and photsynthesis which produces too much sugar and oxygen for the coral. It responds by expelling it’s symbiotic algae and or closing up.
