Are all Yakima Q Towers the same?

The functionality and fit of the two Q-Tower models are the same on all vehicles prior to 2004. Starting with a handful of new body styles for 2004 and moving forward, we fit vehicles with the newer version of the Q-Towers only. If the vehicle requires the new towers, you will see fit note #180.

How do I unlock Yakima rack without key?

  1. You will just need to use a “Control Key”, uncut key, to remove the lock core and get the core / Key number from side of the core, see image below.
  2. Once the core is removed, the SKS key code will be on the side or back of the lock core.

How much weight can a Yakima rack hold?

SKS stands for “Same Key System.” These types of cores enable you to lock all your Yakima products with just one key. When replacing a core on your Yakima product, you may need a Control key to remove your existing unlocked core so you can transfer the core to a different Yakima product.

How long does it take to install Q towers?

If you are installing the towers yourself, take your time. Precise measurements mean a smaller time commitment and solid fit. I had no issues installing the towers on my Toyota Tacoma, an hour from out of the box to solid on the truck & 1/2 hour on the second crossbar.
