Can you replace Chris King bottom bracket bearings?
All of our bearings are serviceable and easily accessed. Our bottom bracket and headset bearings should be serviced in place and not removed from the cups as they are a secure press fit. Hub bearings can be left in the hubshell for service, accessible using just a single 2.5mm hex wrench.

Are all bike headsets the same size?
Threaded headset sizes are designated by the outer diameter of the steering column. This can seem confusing, because the head cups do not measure the named standard. The threaded standards are 1 inch, 1-1/8 inch, and 1-1/4 inch headsets. The various standards are generally not interchangeable.
How do bike headsets work?
The headset consists of a large set of bearings allowing your fork steerer to rotate inside the frame’s head tube. Every movement you make with your upper body is transmitted into the bike through the headset. Most modern bikes feature a threadless headset which can be integrated, internal, and external.
Can you convert threaded headset to Threadless?
No. Most threaded headsets are 1″ and most threadless headsets are 1 1/8″. So it physically won’t fit. The best you could do is run a converter like this to run a threadless stem, but that’s not going to do much for you.
Are Chris King bottom brackets worth it?
Attention to Detail This is obviously not the cheapest bottom bracket, but its quality is obvious and the serviceable bearings and 5-year warranty make it worth it. As opposed to replacing cheaper bottom brackets over time as they wear out, this could actually be the more affordable option in the long run.
Are Chris King headsets worth it?
I like King stuff and it is worth the extra money to me. It is top rate quality and made in the U.S. I am OK with paying the extra money and have always been happy with what I got for the money. That said, King headsets did have some problems in years past with creaking when used with longer travel forks.
Why is Chris King so expensive?
Even though Chris King’s ball bearings were harder than everyone else’s, his business practices were based on the much fluffier ideals and ethics of the hippy scene he had come from: manufacturing processes had to be sustainable and waste must be recycled. That’s what makes Chris King headsets expensive.
How do I know my bike headset size?
You will need to measure (in millimetres) the inside diameter (ID) of the top of the head tube (above pic) and the bottom of the head tube (pic below). Measurements are rounded to the nearest millimetre. Example: a tapered frame with a 44mm upper ID and a 56mm lower ID.
