What is a MPI stress test?
What is a MPI stress test?
A Stress/Rest Myocardial Perfusion Imaging (MPI) Study is a type of stress test that uses PET or SPECT imaging of a patient’s heart before and after exercise to determine the effect of physical stress on the flow of blood through the coronary arteries and the heart muscle.
What is SSS score?
The global scoring of myocardial perfusion uses measures such as: the Summed Stress Score (SSS), the Summed Rest Score (SRS), and the Summed Difference Score (SDS). The SSS is the sum of the individual scores from the 17 segments of the polar map obtained during stress.
What is abnormal MPI?
Conclusions: Abnormal MPI may predict a higher likelihood for cardiovascular disease than suggested by normal cardiac coronary angiogram alone. MPI may reveal abnormalities of coronary flow and microvasculature than are not detected by the anatomy of coronary lumen. This group of patients may warrant closer monitoring.
How are stress scores calculated for radionuclide MPI?
• Summed Stress Score (SSS) = sum of 17 stress scores Global Extent and Severity of Hypoperfusion • Summed Score (SSS) = sum of 17 stress scores • Summed Rest Score (SRS) = sum of 17 rest scores • Summed Difference Score (SDS) = SSS – SRS % Myocardium% Myocardium hypoperfused Total Perfusion Deficit (TPD)
What do you need to know about stress / rest MPI?
The stress/rest MPI may also be referred to as a cardiac or nuclear stress test, a thallium scan or a sestamibi cardiac scan. A physician may perform a Stress/Rest MPI study to: assess the overall function of the heart muscle heart and the function of individual muscle walls assess damage to the heart muscle following a heart attack
How to interpret the SPECT or pet MPI?
on Myocardial Perfusion SPECT/PET • Gray Scale • Observe Endocardial Motion/myocardial thickening • 17 Segment Scoring • Contours On And OffContours On And Off Ejection Fraction • Verify Contours (Cine) • Inspect Time-volume Curve 19 Systematic Interpretation of SPECT or PET MPI • Check for technical sources of erro r • Assess Perfusion Defects
Which is the most abnormal segment of MPI?
Normal All segments: 0 Probable normal Equivocal Probably abnormal Few segments: 1 1 segment: 2 Probably abnormal 2 segments: 2 Definitely abnormal 2 segments: 2 ≥ 3 segments: 2 Berman/German in Clinical Gated Cardiac SPECT 2006;page 157
