What is Ep 80 90w gear oil?
What is Ep 80 90w gear oil?
EP 80W-90 Gear Oil is a mineral oil based lubricant formulated for use in a wide range of automotive, plant, agricultural and industrial transmission systems. This grade has a high level of extreme pressure (EP) additive that provides effective gear protection over a range of temperatures and shock load conditions.
Can you use 80W90 instead of 80W?
It just thins less than a straight 80w would, ending up as thick as a 90w would be when warm. Unless there’s some unusual reason your ATV must have straight weight, 70w-80 would be the way to go. Then it will be the proper viscosity when warm.
What is 80W90 gear oil used for?
Application. Gear Oil 80W-90 is designed for use in differentials, both hypoid and limited slip, manual gearboxes, transfer cases and transaxles in passenger cars, light commercials, 4WDs, trucks, construction, earthmoving and agricultural equipment, where this viscosity grade is required.
Which is better 75W 140 or 75W 90?
You shouldn’t go heavier than 75W90 in the front and for normal duty and occasional towing 75W90 is fine for the rear. I had several bottles of 75W140 on the shelf and ran a load of it in my rear diff for 30,000 miles or so. I don’t tow often or heavy, so it was “overkill” for my truck.
What’s the difference between 80W 90 and 75W90 gear oil?
Subaru Fanatic! In a mineral gear oil, there’s a large difference between an 80W90 and a 75W90. A mineral/conventional 75W90 may/will have a quite large quantity of polymer viscosity index improver which will shear over time. The base oil blend is much lighter, so this means your gear oil will get significantly thinner over time.

Which is better a 90 or a 140?
Tow a lot, run massive tires, etc, 140. Occasional towing, but mostly just regular driving, 90 is good. Both have the ability to provide good lubrication under stress. Really just depends how fast they’re gonna need to change it again. 140 will hold up to hard work a lot longer before breaking down.
