What is spaced doublet?

What is spaced doublet?

Doublets can be air-spaced, cemented, or “oiled”. A sub-type of air-spaced doublet is the dialyte, a design where elements are widely spaced to save on the amount of glass used or where the elements cannot be cemented because they have strongly dissimilar curvatures.

How does achromatic doublet work?

An achromatic lens is a combination of concave and convex pieces of glass that focuses the different colour wavelengths in light to a single plane. The concave lens is made from flint glass and the convex lens from crown glass. Left: Chromatic aberration and achromatic doublet based on an image by an unknown artist.

Why are achromatic lenses used?

An achromatic lens or achromat is a lens that is designed to limit the effects of chromatic and spherical aberration. Achromatic lenses are corrected to bring two wavelengths (typically red and blue) into focus on the same plane.

What is an achromatic doublet Why is it necessary and how does it work?

Achromatic doublet lenses (“achromat”) are designed to eliminate chromatic and spherical aberrations inherent in singlet lenses. An aplanatic meniscus lens will shorten the focal length of the doublet lens (thus, lowering the F-num) without introducing additional spherical aberrations.

What can air spaced doublets be used for?

Our Air-Spaced Achromatic Doublets have been designed for use across a broad wavelength range with minimal aberration.

What kind of lens is a doublet lens?

In optics, a doublet is a type of lens made up of two simple lenses paired together.

Which is the best wavelength for air spaced doublets?

Our Laser-Line Air-Spaced Doublets have been optimized for best performance at either 532 or 1064 nm. Our Air-Spaced Achromatic Doublets have been designed for use across a broad wavelength range with minimal aberration.

How to reduce the spot size in doublet?

Select the design wavelengths including the primary wavelength Select the types of glass Correct spherical aberration, minimizing spot size diameter If the aberration or spot size cannot be reduced to an acceptable level, the designer returns to the first step. To start design select from the pull down menu “Refractor | Doublet”.
