Why do Marines use Marpat?
Military combat uniforms have two purposes: to camouflage soldiers, and to hold together in rugged conditions. It should follow that when such a uniform is developed, the entire military should transition to it. In 2002, the Marine Corps adopted a digital camouflage pattern called MARPAT.

Where does the EGA appear on the MARPAT uniform?
After the MARPAT pattern was selected, a new uniform was designed to replace BDUs. There are two color schemes for MARPAT, woodland and desert. The USMC Eagle, Globe and Anchor (EGA) emblem appears on the boots, the patrol cap (cover) and other appropriate locations. The EGA is also embedded in the pattern itself (photo below, right).
